About Boho Strings

The story of Boho Strings began in 2015. David Ramael and Jessi Tortorice had the idea of taking the traditional concept of the string orchestra and giving it a fresh twist. They surrounded themselves with a passionate group of artistic and business advisors, and together they decided to pursue a new direction. The focus was on telling stories in music. Stories about important social issues. Stories about people. But especially stories where the music is at the center. Boho Strings also stands for much more than merely performing concerts. The ensemble is one of the inspirers behind the project Be A He(a)ro, which seeks to give mental well-being an important place within companies, social organizations and schools, and this through the workshop “Listening Leadership” in partnership with LQ. They chose to make their home in the Antwerp district of Borgerhout. Borgerhout is Antwerp's most densely populated district, with an incredible diversity of origins and nationalities. In such a place, many stories bubble to the surface and new ones are added every day. So a fantastic source of inspiration! Boho Strings quickly gained an excellent reputation. With projects such as La Captive, D-Radicalize, Urban Renaissance and In Deep Silence, they regularly perform on all the major stages in Flanders, including BOZAR, deSingel, De Bijloke and Concertgebouw Brugge. Not surprisingly, the ensemble consists of the finest string players from Belgium and the surrounding area. In 2018, the first CD "Nostalgia" was released, dedicated entirely to the music of Belgian composer Wim Henderickx. This project has received rave reviews in the international music press. For example, Gramophone Magazine wrote, "The number of active string ensembles may be considerable, but Boho Strings is unmatched in its dynamics and unanimity of response."
