I am the Owner/Operator of Bold Beginnings Family Child Care, Ms. Lauren R. I am a seasoned early childhood professional with nearly a decade of experience. "Daycare" and "babysitter" are my dirty words! I found a passion in preschool education (0-5 years) after completing my bachelor's degree at The Ohio State University. I absolutely loved my time as a teacher because of my students, and saw room for improvement. I ascended into administration, earning positions as a director and multi-site coordinator. However, I was met with resistance when making decisions in the name of the best research-based practices, instead of the financial impact. This is not an issue with greedy childcare owners (for the most part).There are fundamental changes that need to occur in the way our country handles early childhood education, but that is a soap box for another day! I learned an immense amount from my childcare center experience, but I also saw that the best possible learning outcomes are not being attained due to the overwhelming environments with high ratios, underqualified and undercompensated staff, and burned out leaders. Bold Beginnings Family Child Care is my solution to this problem, albeit a small solution currently! I provide practical, intentional learning experiences in my home for children between the ages of six weeks and five years. I am in the process of becoming licensed, however it is perfectly legal by Ohio law to care for up to six children while unlicensed. I only state this to show that I have respect for the systems doing their best to keep our children safe! While in my care, children are treated and educated as the individuals they are. I use their interests to engage them in activities that exercise all domains of learning, particularly social-emotional regulation. This starts in infancy going through kindergarten prep.
