About Borde Hill
Borde Hill is a 2,000-acre Estate in West Sussex which has been owned by the Stephenson Clarke family for 130 years. Jay Goddard (née Stephenson Clarke) is the first woman to take the reigns as Managing Director of the Estate and is passionate about preserving the beauty of the Estate for future generations. At the heart lies a Grade II listed Elizabethan Mansion House set within a stunningly beautiful and botanically rich landscaped Garden and traditional Parkland. With events from horticulture, lifestyle and music, and trails for all the family held seasonally, this is the perfect place for everyone to enjoy a wonderful day out in the beautiful Sussex countryside. Listed by English Heritage as being of Grade II* historic importance and set in 383 acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the High Weald, Borde Hill is of national botanical importance and features one of the rarest collections of privately owned champion trees in the UK. The Garden is renowned for its impressive collection of rare trees, shrubs, and plants, and is the ‘mother’ home of many notable hybrid plants including Camellia williamsii ‘Donation’ and Alstroemeria ‘Walter Fleming’. Plants and in particular the Medicinal Power of Plants, are in Borde Hill’s DNA. Future plans for Borde Hill include a new field to fork restaurant launching at the Stables, and an important community-led project in the South Park which is being kindly supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and holds sustainability, outdoor learning and wellbeing at its core.
