About Borderline Arts
We use the arts to raise awareness of BPD & break down the surrounding stigma, through: Exhibitions of Artwork created by individuals with BPD. Theatre/Film Projects portraying life with BPD. Creative Educational Workshops which are aimed health care professionals/students & carers/family/friends of people with BPD. Art Group & Writing Group for Adults with BPD (both run on a monthly basis). General Awareness Raising, e.g. information stands at community events, holding events/fundraisers, releasing articles & sharing information on our website & social media. What are we trying to achieve? - Raise awareness of BPD to the general public to help reduce stigma & improve attitudes to those with the illness - Encourage social inclusion & provide a creative outlet for sufferers - Empower those with BPD to feel able to live with & speak about the illness without shame - Enable adults with BPD to creatively explore the positive aspects of themselves & to see their illness not as who they are, but rather as a list of their struggles - Educate carers & professionals, to help improve the quality of care & relationships for those with BPD - Strengthen & enrich the local community through the arts. We are not a support service for those with BPD, but rather an awareness raising charity. Having said that, we do empower individuals with BPD to express their experience of the condition in creative ways - this helps to raise awareness, but also gives them a voice & a realisation that having the illness is not something to be ashamed of at all. This in itself increases their self-esteem & confidence & to feel validated & accepted in who they are. We hope educating carers/professionals about BPD & how to help those with it, will improve the quantity/quality of care that those with BPD receive. Some of our activities include both those with AND without BPD. This increases social inclusion in a safe, supportive environment, which also strengthens the local community.
