About Bourque + Bruegger Architects

BOURQUE BRUEGGER ARCHITECTS was established in 1991. The partners, Patricia Bourque, and Wilbert Bruegger, collaborate with their clients and other firms on small, medium, and large scale projects locally and in other planning jurisdictions. As a firm, we are committed to a starting a project with the careful study of the client and user needs, and to begin with budget, and schedule, as prerequisites for a successful design process. Proceeding from pre-design, inquiry, and investigation, to schematic design using sketches and models, while moving through increasing levels of complexity and detail to delineate and explore the design objectives, reiterated and more clearly defined throughout the process. In addition we seek to explore the durability of the plan, materials, and methods in relation to the environment, historical context, and social and economic conditions. Our experiences with residential projects helps us to understand issues of contextual fit, the dynamic between new and existing forms, the integration of new materials, and new patterns of settlement. From the initial client contact we endeavour to explore program needs based on our clients instructions which informs the conceptual direction of a project. Design is gradual, a process based upon a progression of conceptual ideas while exploring increasing levels of detail, and using models from the outset to communicate form implications and build consensus.
