About Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County
Today’s youth are growing up in a world much different from that of previous generations. The structure and patterns of family life have changed dramatically. The divorce rate is high; many of our members are from single-parent homes or being raised by grandparents or other family members. Childhood obesity is at an all-time high. Most young people are confronted with dangerous influences like gangs, drugs and alcohol, and violence in their schools and neighborhoods. All young people have the potential to succeed. However, not all young people get the support and mentorship they need to thrive. Club alumni say that without Club intervention by caring adult mentors, they often would have made choices that could undermine their future. Children need to have a place where they are physically and emotionally safe. In addition to providing a caring environment, we offer daily access to a broad range of programs that promote the education, health, social character, service, and leadership of the youth we serve.
