About Boys Incorporated - Where a boy can be a boy...
Boys Incorporated (Boys Inc.) is a nonprofit agency that is dedicated to preserving the lives of young elementary school boys in the Greater Memphis/Shelby County area. Our programs are designed to create partnerships with local schools, other young organization, churches and the juvenile court systems. Boys Inc. is a program that is in direct response to the growing number of young boys that are either falling through the cracks at school through repeated failures in the class room or who already display destructive behavior that will eventually lead them to the kind of pitfalls that can derail their lives and leave them entangled with the juvenile system. Boys Inc.’s goal is to foster a commitment to young boys that will promote trust, strong interpersonal relationships, and reassert a sense of hope for their future. To accomplish this goal, young boys must be in a caring, comprehensive learning environment that encourages their best efforts and reinforces personal and mutual respect. One of our strategies is to get them while they are young, affectionate, and still impressionable, then nurture them from a positive support system. The focus is slightly different at each age level, but the goal remains the same -- empower them to make positive changes in their lives. Boys Inc. will focus primarily on young boys 6 to 12 years of age. This age group is particularly challenging when it comes to the constant bombardment of negative peer pressure and the continuous recruitment of our young boys by local gang members.
