About Bread & Roses Presents

As an arts organization with a human services mission, Bread & Roses Presents brings hope, healing and joy through live music to isolated audiences in the SF Bay Area. Every day our performances brighten the lives of children in classrooms and hospital rooms; inspire adults in rehab centers, detention facilities and homeless shelters; soothe the souls of military veterans; and uplift the spirits of seniors, often alone and immobile in day care centers, senior residences and health care facilities. To accomplish our goals, we marshal the talents of 1,400 volunteer musicians and other performers each year and present 600 live performances in some 125 facilities in eight Bay Area counties; more than one show every day of the year to 30,000 isolated audience members, 57% of whom are ethnic minorities. In 1974, our Founder Mimi Fariña’s dream came to life as Bread & Roses Presents starting with a handful of shows with her musician friends for neighbors in need. Bread & Roses Presents has blossomed since then bringing the healing power of live music through the shared connections of a network of volunteer musicians and performing artists.
