About Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska
Mission: To increase awareness of the survivability of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection by delivering screening services and educational programs throughout the state of Alaska. During the 1970's, mammograms were very difficult for women to get. A small group of women organized to solve this problem. Through their efforts, the Breast Cancer Detection Center was founded in Fairbanks in 1976. The BCDC Mobile Mammography program was introduced in 1995 to serve Alaskan communities where services were not readily available. In 2011 BCDC acquired a 35 foot Freightliner coach and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis technology, also known as 3-D Mammography, became available to BCDC patients in 2015. Today both the Mammography Center in Fairbanks and Mobile Mammography Truck provide the highest quality breast cancer screening services to residents in Interior Alaska and beyond, in communities along the roadway, and along the Alaska Marine Highway route. BCDC is a non-profit organization that is funded by payment for services and philanthropy.
