About Bright Lights for Africa

At Bright Lights for Africa, we strive to empower the most vulnerable people regardless of their religion, race, ethnicity, or gender in East Africa and Canada. We create lasting changes in people and their communities by tackling the root causes of poverty. We work strongly within Calgary and the Democratic Republic of Congo to develop opportunities that allow people to build livelihoods while advancing their skills, gaining knowledge, creating jobs, promoting resiliency, and developing their communities. Founded during the height of 2020 by our founder, Jenny Rutayomba, as she felt a strong need to help others and felt support was missing in her home country of the DRC. Bright Lights for Africa is run largely off the help of our fantastic volunteers who donate their time and skills to creating lasting change in their communities. We work within Alberta, Calgary, and Musenge Village located near Goma in the DRC.
