Brighton and Hove Energy Services Co-operative (BHESCo) is a not-for-profit social enterprise on a mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by delivering affordable, community-owned energy solutions. Based in Brighton & Hove, we have delivered over 60 clean energy projects across Sussex, achieving combined lifetime cost savings of £3.7 million and carbon emissions savings of 8,618 tonnes. We provide project financing, project management, and consultancy services to empower households, businesses, and local authorities to meet their heat and power needs. Typical upgrades include * Insulation & energy efficiency * Renewable energy generation * Low-carbon heating systems Project costs are met by our network of community investors, meaning there is no upfront cost to customers, who start to see savings immediately. Capital costs are repaid over a 20-25 year lease period through a Power Purchase or Hire Purchase Agreement. BHESCo have experience in the design and development Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs), supporting local councils and neighbourhoods to map out costed, achievable decarbonisation strategies. BHESCo work closely with the council and local charities to tackle fuel poverty, ensuring vulnerable and low-income households are not left behind in the transition to Net Zero. Our community outreach has supported thousands of households, providing energy advice at food banks, visits to people's homes, and support accessing grants and vouchers. Recognised by Ofgem as a leading model for local energy services, we are now scaling our impact beyond Sussex helping more communities across England to drive down energy costs and carbon emissions. Our pioneering work has been recognised with awards from the Sussex Chamber of Commerce, Community Energy England, and Regen.
