About British Association for Neurodiversity (B4ND)
The British Association for Neurodiversity (BAND) is a membership organisation made up of UK doctors with an interest in neurodivergence and the associated physical health conditions. We started as a small group of UK GPs working in neurodevelopmental services but we have expanded to include members who support our aims in furthering education and understanding of neurodiversity. Our members come from all over the UK and hold roles within the Royal College of GPs, Local Medical Committees, medical schools, GP training programmes, within the NHS and in private practice. BAND's missions are: Inclusivity - We are committed to providing comprehensive support and understanding to our patients and colleagues who have diverse neurological profiles. Patient Centred Care - We are committed to delivering patient-centred care that considers the individual needs and preferences of neurodivergent patients. Holistic Care - Multidiagnosis is the norm under the Neurodivergence umbrella. We aspire to improve services towards provision of holistic assessments and provision of care. ND Colleagues - In supporting our colleagues, we aim to create a workplace that is conducive to the professional growth and well-being of all healthcare providers. GP Education - We support GPs’ continuing professional development to enhance their understanding of neurodivergent differences and the associated physical health conditions, ensuring that they can provide informed and compassionate care. Healthcare Systems - We support improved resourcing of neurodiversity healthcare. We take a systems thinking approach to service optimisation to most appropriately match resources to need. Society - Through community outreach and education, we wish to raise awareness about neurodiversity, to debunk myths, and to reduce stigma. We engage with local and national organisations and initiatives to promote neurodiversity acceptance, contributing to a more inclusive and understanding society.
