About Brixton Radio

A non-profit, community-based independent radio station built to bring a sense of community and inclusivity to all who get involved. At Brixton Radio, we are passionate about keeping the grassroots culture alive, which we do by supporting and promoting independent artists. Brixton Radio offers over 250 shows a month, spreading its ethos of making music and culture accessible to a worldwide audience. This allows us to attract and welcome diverse artists worldwide and showcase genres ranging from Reggae, Soul, and R&B, to Jazz, Jungle, and Disco. Our cultural diversity is what makes us unique. Being a non-profit radio station, charity and fundraising play a vital part in Brixton Radio's vision, and we hugely appreciate the support we receive from the creative community here. Using our platform is essential to highlighting and supporting local and international causes and topics that matter to our community and its people. We endeavour to enthuse and equip individuals with skills to further their interests pertaining to the music industry and radio broadcasting. By providing the training, the safe space and the equipment, we will be able to feed passions and grow interests to benefit the individual but also impact the wider community. Since it’s birth the radio has managed to employ through the ‘kickstart scheme’ 8 individuals who have now gone on into paid employment and thriving careers. Over a hundred other volunteers have joined through University Volunteering Services and internships programs. We aim to build on this for the radio, its community, and its culture to flourish.
