About Brokedown Films

Independent Film Production ELIZABETH SPEAR, Director is a Texas-born, award-winning filmmaker with a B.A. degree in English Literature and Studio Art from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She is earning her phD in Communication at European Graduate School. Spear served as director for the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, Ltd. and was also a co-founder of Iron Gate Studios, a not-for-profit multi-media art gallery and workspace in East Austin that operated from 2003-2006. She has been a guest film teacher at The Khabele School and St. Stephen's School, both private high schools in Austin. She co-founded The Birdhouse Collective, an artist residency program and Texas Artists' Cultural Alliance, a non-profit which supports artists’ livelihoods. JAMES TEEMS, Producer is a psychotherapist and filmmaker with a B.A. in Religious Studies from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, an M.A. in Counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX, and is working towards a PhD in Communication from European Graduate School. Most recently, he was the assistant director, executive producer and actor for award- winning Forward/Backward, a feature narrative currently on the film festival circuit. He is co-founder and executive director of The Birdhouse Collective, an artist residency program in Austin, TX that brings artists from around the world to come to Austin and create in a community environment.
