BSIDE was created to help solve a critical need for affordable housing in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. We have a laser-like focus on small homes and backyards as the most promising solution to our region’s affordable housing problem. Backyard homes (commonly called ADUs or “granny flats”) can create new homes at a time when there is critically short supply. But unlike other types of new homes, they also build: Generational Wealth for existing homeowners and small builders. Monthly Cashflow for Homeowners. Savings for Municipalities. Better Options for Seniors and People with Disabilities. Resilient Communities. To serve this market, BSIDE is doing a few things differently. We provide a turnkey solution for ADUs and small homes. We manage everything from design, through financing, permitting, and construction. We do so while innovating and never compromising on four things: ONE Transparency. As we seek to innovate on how to make our homes as durable and affordable as possible, we need your feedback. We promise to share all the numbers with you. TWO Sustainability. There are many definitions for this, but to BSIDE that means energy efficiency, durability, and careful resource use. THREE Affordability. We are eliminating extraneous costs wherever possible. Pre-engineering, panelizing, and creative phase management are examples of how we are making our backyard homes as affordable as possible. FOUR Dignity. BSIDE is working with partners to offer subsidies and grants that will flow directly to your project if you commit to renting your new home at an affordable rate.
