About Busload of Books

Busload of Books is a literacy equity and awareness organization founded and run by children's book creators Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr. In partnership with First Book and Build-A-Bear Foundation, Robbi and Matthew provide free creative programming and all-school book giveaways to Title I elemetary schools across the country. In partnership with Washington College, Busload of Books conducts ongoing research on how author visits and book giveaways impact elementary student attitudes about reading, writing, and drawing. Robbi and Matthew and their four kids (and two dogs) spent the 2022-2023 school year on the Busload of Books Tour, traveling the country in a school bus/tiny home—visiting Title I schools in all 50 states (plus DC), doing presentations on creativity and collaboration, and giving away 25,000 hardcover books to students and teachers from underserved communities.
