About Buttitta Wine Consulting & Writing

After working as a chef for many years, I started planting grapes and making wine in 2008, and have been working in vineyards and wineries ever since with some wine writing on the side. While I have a personal interest in Italian grapes, and helping to find their voice in California, I also love working with the classics like Cab, Pinot, and Chardonnay. From low-sulfur winemaking to working with less-than-ideal wine, there is always a way to maximize quality. I also have a deep interest in wine history while keeping an eye on innovation, which for me creates a deeper perspective and toolkit, and hopefully leads to more thoughtful writing and winemaking. Beyond the winery, my wine experience spans from full Simonit & Sirch method training, wine retail, wholesale, and sommelier certification, to wine competitions, speaking engagements and teaching classes and being a winery owner and GM myself. I have been active in most parts of the wine business and love helping small producers and wine brand owners get started or help to fine-tune their operations. Doing a lot with a little is my specialty, and I also have developed a network of professional colleagues who are ready to tackle large projects as well.
