About Bytown Brigantine Tall Ships Adventure
Bytown Brigantine's Tall Ships Adventure is a not-for-profit registered charity that provides education and training in a demanding environment to allow young people to develop leadership qualities and self-reliance through the medium of sailing vessels. Founded in 1984, we provide youth with the opportunity to reach new heights through adventure and character-building experiences. Tall ship sail training voyages are aboard the brigantine Fair Jeanne in the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes and aboard the brigantine Black Jack on the Ottawa River. Youth 12-14 sail on the 87' Black Jack in the sheltered waters of the Ottawa River. Youth 14+ sail the 110' Fair Jeanne for 7, 10, or 14-day voyages and voyages dedicated to earning a high school credit. More than sailing, these camps and voyages challenge youth to step away from the digital and toward a hands-on, confidence-building experience leading to greater self-reliance and opportunities for growth in both teamwork and leadership skills. Youth can return to work toward crew positions. The organization also offers field trips and small group sailings for both high schools and corporations.
