About Cain Bio-Engineering
Simon Cain founded the company Cain Bio-Engineering in 2003 with the aim of restoring aquatic environments to a state of optimal biodiversity. Our work includes catchment-scale river and floodplain restoration, channel re-alignment, erosion control, inter-tidal flood-bund stabilisation, provision of nature-like fish passes, and the creation of wetlands and lakes. Utilising a combination of innovative technology alongside tried and tested techniques, Cain Bio-engineering has become one of the country’s leading specialists in river restoration and erosion control. Our expert team of environmental scientists, geographers, surveyors, and engineers, alongside our skilled operations and support teams, design and implement industry-leading solutions both across the UK and internationally. A design-build company, we employ our holistic methodology to restore degraded aquatic ecosystems by reinstating natural process to rivers, streams, floodplains, wetlands, and inter-tidal zones. Our erosion control solutions where rivers impact historical infrastructure, such as flood bunds, bridges, dams, weirs, highways, and railway embankments, integrate our knowledge of natural river processes with geotechnical engineering, hydraulic modelling, fluvial geomorphology, and Natural Floodplain Management (NFM). We are proud to work for a diverse range of clients, including LPAs, public bodies, utilities, the Environment Agency, rivers trusts, wildlife trusts, fishing clubs, housing associations, land agents and riparian landowners of various sizes, from large estates to smallholdings. Cain Bio-Engineering is an eco-friendly business, actively committed to minimising its own carbon footprint. Learn more at cainbioengineering.co.uk.
