Cairn Diagnostics has developed the 13C-Spirulina Gastric Emptying Breath Test (GEBT) as an aid in the diagnosis of delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis) in adults. Gastroparesis is a condition where food doesn't empty normally from your stomach. Symptoms of gastroparesis include nausea, vomiting, feeling full after only a few bites of food, abdominal pain, bloating and lack of appetite. Gastroparesis can cause weight loss, malnutrition, and dehydration. This condition can be especially problematic for individuals with diabetes because it adversely affects glycemic control. GEBT is an FDA-approved, non-invasive, standardized test that can be administered in a doctor’s office or at home via telehealth. GEBT was validated against the 4-hour gold standard reference method of gastric scintigraphy (Mayo, Rochester) and does not require specialized imaging equipment, licensed facilities or personnel. Samples are analyzed in a CLIA certified clinical laboratory and results are provided quickly to the ordering provider.
