About Cal Poly Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA)
Who Are We? Cal Poly TAGA is the university chapter of the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts. TAGA offers hands-on learning experiences through its six-month long production sprint for the annual international TAGA student publication competition. TAGA welcomes students of all skill levels and backgrounds to participate in producing an industry-level publication. TAGA is structured into four teams: publication design, digital publication, production, and marketing. Attend our general meetings to get involved with any team! Our Journal The journal is completely student-produced, from design conception to in-house production. It consists of the best technical papers written by students from the GrC department that explore aspects of the evolving print industry. The Competition and Conference Every year, university chapters of TAGA from around the world attend the annual TAGA conference where they compete for the grand prize: the Helmut Kipphan Cup. Each university is judged in the categories of publication design, digital application, production quality, and content (technical papers). Aside from the student competition, the conference offers seminars on the latest technology in the graphic communication industry and opportunities to network with industry leaders. Opportunities Members will gain firsthand experience in: Design (Iterative process, Adobe Creative Cloud, Editorial design) Digital publication (Dreamweaver, InDesign ) Print production (Prepress, Production, Postpress) Marketing (Fundraising, Social Media content creation) Achievements In March 2017, Cal Poly TAGA was awarded the Helmut Kipphan Cup for Best Student Publication at the annual international TAGA conference. Bringing home the grand prize to Cal Poly was a historic moment for the club as well as the Cal Poly GraphicCommunication department.
