About Caledonian Club of San Francisco
Founded in 1866, the Caledonian Club of San Francisco is one of the oldest and most distinguished Scottish heritage organizations in California. Dedicated to preserving and promoting Scottish culture, the Club fosters a strong community through tradition, fellowship, and philanthropy. As stewards of the Scottish Highland Gathering & Games, the largest Scottish festival in the Western U.S., the Club has upheld this legacy event for over 150 years. Held annually on Labor Day weekend at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, the Games showcase Highland athletics, bagpipe bands, Highland dancing, clan gatherings, Celtic music, whisky tastings, and more, attracting Scots and enthusiasts from around the world. The Club is managed by a dedicated volunteer leadership team, including the Chief and First through Fourth Chieftains, and an active membership base. All are committed to advancing Scottish heritage. Our officers and committee chairmen oversee cultural events, International Athletes, Artists, & Delegates, membership growth, and financial stewardship, ensuring the sustainability and success of both the Club and the Games. Beyond the Games, we host key annual events such as the Tartan Ball, strengthening ties within the Scottish-American community in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Club also supports scholarships, cultural programs, and charitable initiatives, such as the Prince Charles Pipe Band sponsorship, reinforcing our commitment to heritage and service. With a deep-rooted history and an eye on the future, the Caledonian Club of San Francisco continues to celebrate, educate, and connect generations through Scottish traditions.
