About Calgary Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 255
The Calgary Firefighters Association is affiliated as Local 255 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), representing more than 1700 members of the Calgary Fire Department. Local 255 is the second largest IAFF Local in Canada and is comprised of Firefighters, Apparatus Technicians and maintenance staff. Organized in 1917 as Local 19 of the Federal Fire Fighters Union, Calgary Firefighters affiliated with the IAFF on October 4, 1923. The Calgary Firefighters Association has grown and evolved over the years, but our mandate remains the same. The following preamble from our Constitution and Bylaws reflects the core values of our organization: "The Calgary Firefighters Association shall work diligently to improve the life of all Members of the Association and their families through five (5) pillars: Wages Benefits Retirement Security Health & Safety Working Conditions Strength through united action, guided by intelligence, is the hallmark of an effective trade union organization.
