About California Dictionary Project
Our mission is simple and focused: to donate and distribute dictionaries annually to third-graders in California public schools. The California Dictionary Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, headquartered in San Francisco. We have no religious or political affiliation and are staffed entirely by volunteers. Our funding comes through donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. We also receive help in the form of donated services such as printing, marketing and web design. Except for incidental expenses, all of the money donated to California Dictionary Project is used to purchase low-cost paperback dictionaries that are then distributed to students in California's public schools. Whenever possible, we partner with local literacy groups and other service organizations to expand our reach and services.
