About Camberwell After School Project
CASP was started in 1985 by a group of single mothers who were concerned by the lack of opportunities outside school hours for the children of working parents. It started by providing an after school collection service and a school holiday play scheme, for children from three schools in. Camberwell, using a disused school dining hall as the first home. A purpose built centre was opened in 1991, on a piece of previously derelict land at 14 Badsworth Rd, as home for the various services for children and their families. The project has continued to grow, leading to us providing a wider range of services. But we remain focused on our original mission: helping and supporting the children and their families. CASP worked together with Southwark Council and local schools to support their child and family agendas – including the Extended Schools initiative. Camberwell After School Project is a voluntary run and registered charity and company limited by guarantee. The project is co-ordinated by a voluntary board of trustees. Our Chief Executive Officer, Carmen Lindsay MBE— original founder of CASP—is responsible for the overall running of the services and leads a team of 13 part time staff members, plus volunteers and trainees who help to run the services.
