About Camera Story
Camera Story (CS) is a charitable organisation based in Broome, WA. Dedicated to supporting women to be free from economic and social dependency, through the development of practical commercial and creative photographic skills. CS works alongside Kimberley-based First Nations women, to recognise their inherent talent, develop their creative confidence and create opportunities for economic participation. Founded in 2013, CS was born out of the desire to bring the resources necessary to experience the joy of photography to people living in under-resourced areas. Recognising the inherent power of the camera to transform lives, CS has evolved from working with children from challenging backgrounds to a unique and specialised mentoring model with a key focus on supporting First Nations people and their families. Believing this work to be relevant, timely, and culturally appropriate, CS is working toward creating a self-sustaining economic model for First Nations female photographers.
