About Camp Agawam

Founded in 1919, Camp Agawam, located on Crescent Lake in Raymond, Maine, is a traditional seven-week summer camp for boys. During the summer, Agawam boys discover much about themselves and the effort required to become good community citizens. As Agawam campers learn about themselves, we encourage acceptance and respect for individual differences. The unique community at camp promotes independence while also learning the value of counselors and fellow campers for companionship, friendship, entertainment and support. We seek a balance between competition and cooperation. Balance exists between structure and freedom, as we teach the relationship between privilege and responsibility, and the decision-making skills needed to make productive use of free time and elective activity. The Main Idea at Camp Agawam was founded in 1971, and created to provide a unique camping program for boys from Maine who might otherwise never get the chance to attend camp. Since its inception, the Main Idea has been operated by volunteers. The volunteers, including Agawam alumni and current staff members, dedicate their time to giving the campers a fulfilling experience. Funding by donations from alumni, parents and friends of Camp Agawam. Camp Agawam is governed by the Agawam Council Board of Directors. Agawam Council is a non-profit corporation formed in 1985 to ensure that Agawam would continue to thrive as a summer camp after the retirement of former Directors and Owners, Dave and Peg Mason.
