About Can't Buy My Silence
CBMS is a campaign committed to changing legislation and regulation around the use of NDAs to buy the silence of victims of abuse. We provide a safe space to share the anonymous experiences of those who have been forced into silence and provide multiple resources and education to help people understand their rights. We are committed through our twin organisations in the UK and Canada to build an international coalition advocating for the end of the misuse of NDAs . The problem: Widespread "standard" misuse of non-disclosure agreements to silence victims who have suffered sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying and other wrongdoing. The solution: New legislation to make NDAs unenforceable for anything other than their original purpose – to prevent the sharing of confidential business information & trade secrets. Reformed guidance and regulation in the law sector to outlaw the use of NDAs being used to cover abuse. The benefit: Ending the misuse of NDAs will prevent powerful individuals and organisation covering up wrongdoing leading to much greater transparency and enabling corrective action to be taken.
