About Canadian Black Nurses Alliance (CBNA)
Canadian Black Nurses Alliance is a response to the need for Black Nurses to be seen, valued and heard within healthcare and society. Nurses make up the largest group of healthcare providers yet they are often not a part of decision making in healthcare or society. With the added layer of being Black, Black Nurses face many challenges in healthcare, anti-Black racism and discrimination, being foundational. With the inherent system and institutional structures that are founded on the perpetuation of racism, healthcare and Canadian society have systematically disqualify Black Nurses from positions of leadership, academic opportunities and career advancements. Canadian Black Nurses Alliance, is here to amplify Black Nurses in all the many facets Nurses can imagine themselves. The mission of CBNA is to mentor, serve and empower Black Canadian Nurses through the power of community. The approach of this organization is set apart in that it’s focus is the amplification and empowerment of the person of the “Nurse”, not just their professional designation.
