About Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy (CCMH)
We are the oldest massage school in Canada, having been founded in 1946 in Ontario. Proudly continuing that legacy, we strive to offer a high-quality curriculum, leading to graduates who are very much in demand. Located in the hub of Atlantic Canada, CCMH is close to all amenities, residential possibilities, and one of Halifax's largest transit depots. The campus is a spacious, well-appointed, student-centred environment with a multitude of study aids and an incredible hydrotherapy suite. Students can earn their Massage Therapy Diploma by registering for one of our three intakes throughout the year: Fast Track – every January, fully onsite, full-time, 16 months straight through; Regular Track – every August, fully onsite, full-time, 20 months with a summer break in the middle; Online Blended Program – 3.5 years, the first two years online, followed by joining either the fast or regular track to complete their practical courses and clinical practicum. We graduate a class of therapists every year in early spring, most of whom have secured employment well before the end of the program. Students of massage therapy learn foundational knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, study pathologies of all body systems with a focus on conditions of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Clinical science courses provide students with assessment and treatment skills using Swedish massage and other modalities, with the knowledge of how and when to apply proper techniques. Professional practice courses round out the academic program by exploring the therapeutic relationship, legislation, and the ethics of health care, as well as common employment contracts and how to operate a massage therapy practice. One of the most important components of our program is the Clinical Practicum where students treat members of the public in our busy Student Intern Clinics, while under the supervision of a Registered Massage Therapist from our faculty.
