Our Vision: A Canada where mental health is a universal human right. Our Mission: We empower and support the voices of all those seeking assistance on their mental health journey. Founded in Nova Scotia in 1908 the Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division [CMHA NS], is one of Canada’s most established national mental health charities. As the provincial leader and champion for mental health, CMHA Nova Scotia Division delivers programming and services that support the social determinants of health. This includes access to safe jobs, affordable housing, and information to better understand mental health. Together with our branches in Halifax, Colchester East-Hants and Southwest Nova, we promote mental health for all and support the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness in Nova Scotia. In 2024, CMHA NS received accreditation under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program. The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to strengthen practices in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement. With this achievement, CMHA Nova Scotia Division joins a community of more than 120 organizations dedicated to operational excellence.
