Since 1977 FM91.1 Canberra Multicultural Service (1CMS) has been serving Canberra with its up to date local, national and international news, the latest in culture, music, and programs in more than thirty-five different languages in addition to English. It makes us the only multicultural radio station in ACT and its surrounding districts. We are a community radio station which means that our dedicated broadcasters are volunteers from the community, broadcasting for the community. CMS is a not-for-profit majorly run by a dedicated team of volunteers. The mission we have at CMS Radio is to promote multiculturalism by providing quality community radio broadcasting. Being a multicultural community radio station means that we are volunteer based and we survive with the help of your sponsorship. It hasn’t always been easy, and to be honest – it still isn’t easy but we have been here since 1977 because we have something to say and because we truly believe that the stories our broadcasters tell are important as it encourages dialogue between different cultures and with that dialogue together we can fight ignorance. At CMS we want you to feel at home, you, whoever you are, whatever language you may speak we want to be there for you, and we, therefore, open the door and invite you in, welcome home. So have a seat, listen to music from your native country, and tune in to the language that you speak but maybe don’t hear that often. At CMS we will continue building bridges, bridges between the old and the new homeland and bridges in the communities we live in, at CMS you are never alone. People listening to radio want to connect to the broadcaster and at CMS Radio we give you a chance to connect to both the broadcasters and your culture and language – at CMS we are one of you, and you are one of us.
