About Carbeens Lab
Carbeens Lab is a research group @ CNR-STEMS, which is active in many national and international partnerships. It works in the field of chemistry and physics of processes for sustainable energy production and waste valorization. In particular, the research activities regard: - Development and application of advanced diagnostic techniques, based on mass spectrometry, molecular beam, spectroscopy, diffraction, chromatography and microscopy, in order to analyse combustion systems pollutants (in gas phase, aerosols and vapors) and to characterize the nanostructure of advanced carbon materials (included Carbon Dots). - Monitoring, control, and study of the energy efficiency and environmental impact of combustion-based and pyrolysis systems for energy production from fossil fuels, biomasses, wastes and e-fuels. - Sampling and analysis of pollutant emissions from fossil and alternative fuels at plants and engine exhausts, with and without after-treatment systems (diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reactor (SCR)), (included fine (FPM), ultrafine particulate matter (UFPM) and nanoparticles) linked to their environmental and toxicological impact. - Sampling and analysis of non-exhaust emissions from e-fuels, fossil fuels and electric propulsion vehicles. - Valorization of wastes and carbonaceous by-products emitted from combustion/pyrolysis systems for the synthesis of advanced materials for energy application (i.e. Carbon Dots). - Flame synthesis of biocompatible carbon-based nanomaterials and study of their structure and properties that make them appealing for use in sensoristic, medical, electronic, and energy applications. - Green processes for spent batteries recovery. - Upgrading processes for biofuel synthesis from bio-oils.
