The World Health Organisation has designated Dementia a global priority and tasked every country in the world to produce an action plan to assist carers and their loved ones with dementia care. In particular, they have called on technology companies to do more to help with dementia. Dementia, as a degenerative disease doesn’t just impact the carer. It also affects close family and friends, especially those forced into becoming a full-time carer for their loved ones to help them maintain their independence and delay placing them in care homes at a cost to the family of £500-£1000 per week, plus an average £1300 per carer per year additional costs. Recently, the institute of public policy research found with the correct support 80,000 people are now in care homes that could have remained independent, saving local authorities £ 1 billion each. Further, it was discovered the family would prefer it and the alternative would see the remaining life expectancy halved. We believe we can help to extend the independence and dignity of people diagnosed with dementia and provide an improved work-life balance for carers. At CareSquared Ltd., we created a mobile app, to give carers time back and the ability to provide remote care even during future lockdowns, while also providing peace of mind that their loved one is safe. In our experience, Dementia sufferers care about just 3 things. The company, Familiarity, and Routine. That is why we designed an app to provide a solution to those 3 key pain points including safety as the fourth point. Dementia claims more UK lives than breast and prostate cancer combined (the number 2 and 3 biggest killers in the US, while Dementia is currently the 3rd largest killer). The numbers of those diagnosed with Dementia double every 10 years and show no signs of slowing.
