About CASA - London's Festival of Latin American Arts
CASA Festival was founded in 2007 to give a platform in London to contemporary Latin American theatre. Initially featuring works in translation performed by UK casts, in 2010 we moved to Ovalhouse theatre and started bringing companies over from Latin America and broadened into an organisation the celebrates Latin American theatre in all its variety and engages the UK's Latin American populations in theatre as audiences and participants. In 2013 we moved to two new venues, the Barbican Pit and Rich Mix, and presented our most ambitious festivals yet, featuring work from the continent’s most respected companies, exciting work from emerging companies, the best of UK based Latin American performers, community theatre activities, talks, music, workshops and more, working closely with those two venues through to 2015. Since then we have been constantly evolving our model, and 2017 sees us present our 10th anniversary festival at Southwark Playhouse, with longer runs and a more developed UK programme, that includes a re-mount of our award winning 5 star English language production of Thebes Land by Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco, which we originally presented in December 2016 at the Arcola Theatre. As we move into 2018 we are looking to develop more UK work, both original work from UK artists and work from Latin America in translation, as well as exploring new partnerships with theatres throughout the UK to present the work more widely.
