Half of Delhi’s 4.4 million children have permanent lung damage that they will never fully recover from. But finally… it appears the world is ready to sit up and take notice. ‘The single biggest environmental crisis we face in the world.’ ‘The cause of a healthcare catastrophe.’ ‘The silent killer we need to talk about more often.’ Perceptions towards air pollution are rapidly changing in the Indian capital. No longer seen as the ‘rich man’s problem,’ the issue of air quality has shot up the public agenda, largely due to deluge of stories in Indian and international news outlets about Delhi’s air problems. These articles, once rare, now appear almost daily, reporting on the vast health implications air pollution is having on the Indian population, particularly urban city dwellers. We aim to increase awareness and empower young people to make a difference to air pollution through the interactive programmes we are rolling out in Delhi's schools.
