All non-domestic food serving premises in N.Ireland are prohibited from depositing food waste down the drains The Food Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 introduced the article regarding food waste disposal into public drains and the separate collection thereof on 1st April 2017. CaterWaste are leading service suppliers of food to drain prevention equipment throughout Northern Ireland, servicing key hospitality brand outlets in the commercial food serving sector. The installation of a waste food trap or grease trap (which includes the capture of organic hydrocarbons), sometimes referred to as #FOG is paramount in every non-domestic food serving premises to ensure compliance with Northern Ireland #foodlaw Local planning authorities and regulatory bodies may request confirmation that the food serving premises is in compliance with local #FoodLaw The CaterWaste #FoodTrap or #GreaseTrap attaches to the kitchen sink outlet and prevents any food particles from entering the drain. The CaterWaste service team collect the captured #FoodWaste on a routine schedule and keep the kitchen drains free from blockages. The #WasteTrap is ideally installed at the kitchen sink outlet pipe just outside the kitchen at the time of new-build. Alternatively smaller, slightly less efficient units can be installed inside the kitchen area, with careful kitch design Experienced hospitality food serving operators agree that the GresaeTrap should always be installed outside the kitchen area, wherever possible. Many architects and kitchen designers unfortunately continue to specify an inside installation as an equal solution without due regard to the kitchen operator and service requirements. All collected waste food, fat, oil & grease from any type of waste traps must be removed regularly by a licensed waste collector. Organic waste food and fats decompose and emit greenhouse gases (GHG) and the corresponding standards state that maintenance should be completed once a month.
