The Castell del Remei estate is located in Catalonia, Spain and falls within the Costers del Segre DO. Already back in the year 1780 the first vines were planted. In 1867 Castell del Remei was constructed and therefore it has a large tradition in producing premium wines in Spain. Castell del Remei was the first winery in Spain to plant Cabernet Sauvignon & Semillon. It was also the first Catalan producer to sell its own branded, bottled matured wines. The State of Castell del Remei has several buildings that used to be inhabited by more that 50 families. Among them, the Castle with more that 80 windows, the church devoted to the virgin of Remei, the Restaurant open to the public, the cellars and other like the olive oil mill dated 1793, the flour mill, the old distillery, the barrel workshop etc. Because of the major historical importance of Castell del Remei in the region, it still has it´s own Postal Code E-25333. The Castell del Remei estate currently consists of one giant parcel of 400 hectares of which 140 hectares are dedicated to vines, which are an average age of 20 years old. These are all trained on wires (following the ‘Royat double’ system) and consist of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Syrah, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. All the wines are being produced under the Castell del Remei brand and each of the wines with it´s own unique characteristics. Examples are Gotim Bru, Oda and 1780.
