The borough of Waynesburg is the county seat and houses the government and the main commerce center. The community is characterized by a diversity of farming, mining, and related small retail businesses and shopping areas which, coupled with the growth potential, results in a vibrant, yet secure, school community in which to live. The area is enhanced by the sports and recreation opportunities available at the water park, athletic fields and theater; educational opportunities of the Universities of West Virginia, Pittsburgh, California, Waynesburg University and Westmoreland County Community College; and Greene County Museum.
