About Central Virginia Association of Paralegals (CVAP)
Our Purpose Who: Central Virginia Association of Paralegals is a non-profit corporation originally organized as Richmond Association of Legal Assistants (RALA) on December 8, 1982, under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2003, RALA became know as Richmond Paralegal Association. After 20 more successful years, RPA became Central Virginia Association of Paralegals. (CVAP) What: CVAP's mission is to foster professionalism, continuing legal education, public service and networking for paralegals in Central Virginia. Where: CVAP members are from metropolitan Richmond and surrounding counties. CVAP members benefit from network opportunities, continuing education programs, an employment job bank, On The Record quarterly newsletter, affiliation with the National Association of Legal Assistants (“NALA”) and the Virginia Alliance of Paralegal Associations (“VAPA”), and much more. CVAP encourages all members to take an active role in their profession by volunteering in the community through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. Through participation in these programs, members find opportunities to network with local attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, and community leaders while gaining invaluable real world experience. Over the years, RPA supported new paralegal development at many levels, offering student memberships, providing scholarship opportunities for promising candidates, offering a mentor program to help recent paralegal graduates make the transition from school to successful employment as a paralegal, and hosting a CLA/CP study group to assist members in adding credentialing to their profession. CVAP will be continuing these traditions.
