About Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG)
The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is a national non-profit organisation, specialised in sequencing and genomic analysis, located in the Parc Científic de Barcelona. Its trajectory started in 2009, becoming the first national sequencing center and one of the most pioneering in Europe, founded by the Ministry of Science and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Its principal mission is developing genomic analysis projects with a high impact on improving people's health and quality of life, in collaboration with national and international health institutions and research centers. The public center leads large-scale national and international projects in genomics, contributing to cancer and rare diseases diagnosis and treatments, and also to the conservation of biodiversity. Its state-of-the-art genomics technologies includes five second-generation sequencers, third-generation sequencers, based on nanopores and a data processing center with 10,000 computing nodes and 14 petabytes* of disk space for its storage. Its commitment to people and to the development of medicine are some one of the main drivers of its corporate strategy. For this reason, the center offers the highest quality standards, accredited by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Thus, CNAG has the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 certification with regard to its quality management system and the UNE-EN ISO/IEC ISO 17025:2017 accreditation, which guarantees its competence in testing. In addition, the institution also has the BBMRI-ERIC (European Research Infrastructure for Biobanking and Biomolecules) recognition, as an expert center in the analysis of biological samples that generates primary data under internationally standardised conditions. Since 2014, CNAG has been part of the map of the Infraestructura Científicas y Técnicas Singulares, within the Infraestructura para Tecnologías Ómicas (OmicsTech), giving researchers access to these technologies.
