CHANGE - Institute for Global Change and Sustainability is an Associated Laboratory dedicated to producing new knowledge and promoting research and innovation activities to support the adaptation, development and evaluation of public policies and governance strategies that contribute to a resilient, environmentally friendly and resource-efficient economy. With a broad territorial coverage including Lisbon, Azores and southern Portugal, and a focus on the Mediterranean, which is unique among Portuguese Associated Laboratories, brings together more than 300 PhD researchers from three research units - CE3C, MED and CENSE. CHANGE is deeply committed to co-creation with a wide range of actors - from civil society and public administration to the private sector and academia - ensuring that scientific knowledge is build-up to address global changes and effectively transferred and applied. CHANGE's mission is to identify scientifically supported public policy and governance solutions targeting an environmentally friendly, resource-efficient and competitive economy in the context of ongoing global changes. CHANGE's vision is to become the go-to R&D Hub for developing, evaluating and operationalising innovative and improved public policies with relevance and impact on global change and sustainability. CHANGE integrates cross-disciplinary themes to foster knowledge exchange and support the Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal. Committed to informing public policies, CHANGE focuses on biodiversity, sustainable food and biomass, natural resource protection, circular and carbon-neutral economy, and territorial cohesion, ultimately contributing to resilient environments, healthy people, and sustainable economies. Through living labs, strategic partnerships and support to public policies formulation, CHANGE works as a catalyst for transformation, ensuring that science and society move together towards a sustainable, fair and resilient future.
