About Charis Foundation for New Monasticism & Interspirituality
Charis Foundation has reached an exciting and important moment: we have signed a letter of intent to acquire The Mandala Center in Des Moines, New Mexico! We intend this to be the physical home of our foundation, a desert sanctuary and place of retreat for new monastics and the growing community of interspiritual practitioners around the world. Charis Mandala, "Circle of Grace," (formerly The Mandala Center) will become the home of all of our projects. Charis Foundation for New Monasticism & Interspirituality (Charis Foundation) is dedicated to the emergence of a newly conceived Contemplative Life, drawing on all of the world’s great contemplative traditions. Through a strategic array of programs and partnerships, we endeavor to serve a broad-based movement of interspiritually-oriented new monasticism, supporting an Embodied Spirituality that assists practitioners of all types (whether “spiritual-but-not-religious” or members of traditional religious paths) in their desire for a committed Contemplative Life that remains connected to the world and its needs through Sacred Activism. Charis activities endeavor to be synergistic, symbiotic, and systemic. Our approach to projects and activities is essentially collaborative and organic, seeking natural partnerships that create healthy change in diverse spiritual and religious networks. These mutually beneficial relationships often lead to a “synergistic emergence,” an unexpected, organic development fostered by the spirit, leading to new growth which is greater than the sum of its parts. Thus, each of Charis’ activities and programs are independent, yet part of an interconnected ecosystem supportive of broad systemic change in the world through contemplation, interspiritual collaboration, and sacred activism.
