About Chicago Sunday Evening Club

The Chicago Sunday Evening Club was founded in 1908 by the leaders of the Chicago business community. We began as an outreach ministry to the many travelers and salesmen living or passing through "The Loop" - Chicago's central downtown district. Our Sunday events packed the 3,000-seat Orchestra Hall week after week, and featured some of the most well-known speakers of the day (Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., for example, was our guest speaker on seven different occasions). Throughout the twentieth century, the Sunday Evening Club was a pioneer of religious broadcasting. We were one of the first to broadcast a worship service on the radio, and we were the first client of public television station WTTW. One of our programs, 30 Good Minutes (formerly The Hour of Good News) began airing in 1956, and is very likely the longest continuously-running religious television broadcast in the world. We work for the good of Chicago and her citizens. From our founding, we have stood with, and sought to encourage, civic leaders who place community, ethics, and values at the core of their business practices. A highlight of our work is the annual Chicago Leadership Prayer Breakfast, held every year in December.
