About Chicano-A Latino-A Educational Foundation
In the year 2000, Boris Lopez founded the Chicano-a Latino-a Educational Foundation to raise funds for students of disadvantaged backgrounds. He wanted to help students pursue their goals of higher education, despite the rising cost of education for some of them. For the last twenty-two years, the Chicano-a Latino-a Educational Foundation (CLEF) has provided scholarships to hundreds of college and university students. The Foundation (CLEF) has been expanding to help fund outreach programs in the Southern California area. By collaborating with educational programs and working closely with program directors, the Chicano-a Latino-a Educational Foundation developed two summer residential programs; Career Academic Preparation Academy (CAPA) and Peer Academic Leadership (PAL) Program that normally take place on campuses of UCLA and UCSB. These residential programs help students get a real-life college experience, understand the difference between a major and a career, and develop their leadership skills to be able to assist their peers in the college application process. Besides helping students understand the Four Systems of Higher Education, admissions and financial process, the Chicano-a Latino-a Educational Foundation has also created professional development opportunities to train teachers, high school counselors, college counselors, and parents to better support students pursuing a post-secondary Education.
