About Children Arise
According to the UN, 7.6 million children under the age of five died in 2010. Between 2006 and 2008 the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimated that 850 million people were starving. The 2012 Millennium Development Goals Report indicates that more than 600 million people worldwide are still using unimproved water sources and more than one billion people are living on less than $1.25 per day. That translates to roughly 20 per cent of the world’s population (or four-and-a-half times the population of the Unites States) living in extreme poverty. Focusing on children-at-risk in developing countries, Children Arise hopes to break the cycle of poverty by creating opportunity and transforming communities. Many experts suggest that the best way to do this is by providing the tools and opportunities for people to increase their incomes. This will ensure that children are well fed and cared for so that they can develop and thrive, which will in turn help lift their communities out of poverty. Children Arise recognizes that children are the foundation for the future and aims to provide them with the tools and opportunities to rise above their current circumstances. Long-term goals of helping communities build capacity and helping families achieve self-sufficiency are worked on through qualified midwifery care, the alleviation of poverty, and the provision of healthcare, education, vocational training, and the implementation of sustainable micro-industry.
