About CinEast Festival
Launched in 2008, CinEast has grown into the second-largest film festival in Luxembourg and an important event on the country’s cultural landscape, attracting over 10,000 participants per edition. Each October, CinEast presents a carefully curated selection of the finest contemporary film productions from Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. Beyond cinema, the festival establishes a dialogue with other artistic forms – notably music and photography – and contributes to bridging the gap between the “East” and “West” by fostering multicultural exchange among the diverse communities of the Grand Duchy and the Greater Region. With over 10,550 participants (2024), 35+ international guests, 65 feature films from 20 countries, and 120 screenings in cinemas across 17 days, CinEast offers rich and varied content, providing a unique platform for cultural discovery and dialogue. Supported among others by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Luxembourg, the Creative Europe programme and the PwC Foundation Luxembourg, the festival welcomes all audiences and spans every genre — from amateur cinema to short films, from arthouse dramas to wider-appeal comedies. A strong emphasis is placed on younger audiences, with a dedicated programme and collaborations with numerous high schools. CinEast also features an industry strand for professionals, with a particular focus on fostering co-productions between Luxembourg and CEE countries. Screenings and events take place across four main venues – Ciné Utopia, Neimënster, Cercle Cité (operated by the Cinémathèque), and Kinepolis Kirchberg – as well as in partner cinemas throughout the country. CinEast is proud to collaborate with numerous embassies, cultural institutes and film organisations from the 20 represented countries. The 18th edition of CinEast will take place from 10–26 October 2025. Explore the programme at www.cineast.lu.
