About CinePunked

CinePunked launched without a name in 2015 when Robert JE Simpson was invited to put together a panel to mark the legacy of Orson Welles in his centenary year. Since then, in collaboration with film theorist Dr Rachael Kelly and audio producer Ben Simpson CinePunked has regularly delivered a fusion of scholarly and popular film engagement through live appearances, podcasts and publishing. Our mission is to stimulate debate, learning and engagement with the art, politics and ideological framework of film and cinema. We bring interactive conversation about film to live audiences in an effort to open up difficult films and subjects to wider audiences, and to share our love of the medium. All of our discussions are recorded for later release as part of our series of podcasts, which include discussions and analysis of popular film, less popular film, and film that's largely unknown. We host interviews with some of the most interesting and intelligent filmmaker s of the day, including writer/director Anna Biller, 5-Second Films' Michael Rousselet, producer/director Richard Elfman and broadcaster/filmmaker Alex Cox. In 2019, we will launch the first in a projected series of publications of edited essays . CinePunked's owners and core members are film historians Robert J.E. Simpson, and Dr Rachael Kelly We're often joined by special guests for our live panel events, and for our interview series. Our podcast producer, and tech support for live events is provided by Ben Simpson. CinePunked operates out of Belfast, Northern Ireland, but has a global outreach, with its podcast aimed at international listeners. We are currently looking for new opportunities both inside and outside NI.
