The Círculo de Puerto Rico, Inc. (CPRI) is a charitable, educational, cultural and civic tax-exempt organization as recognized by the Federal Internal Revenue Service (under IRC Section 501(c)(3)), in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It supports charitable activities serving the Puerto Rican communities in the metropolitan areas of Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia; and supports assistance programs in Puerto Rico, including solutions for self-sustainability of communities at risk in Puerto Rico. CPRI is a not-for-profit corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and registered to do business in Puerto Rico as a foreign corporation. As a nonprofit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and Puerto Rico; and registered as a tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, CPRI is required to annually file Form 990, which is a United States Internal Revenue Service form that provides the public with financial information about a nonprofit organization. It is often the only source of such information and it is used by government agencies to prevent organizations from abusing their tax-exempt status. Tax-exempt organizations are required to make a copy of their application for exemption and Form(s) 990 available for public inspection and to provide copies of such forms to individuals or organizations that request copies. Alternatively, the Internet may be used to make these documents available.
