About Citizen Farmers

Citizen Farmers is nonprofit that grows citizens by training farmers. The Citizen Farmers Academy is an in-school and after-school 9-18 week program that guides kids through a full season of operating a farm enterprise. By following the Citizen Farmers framework they experience the whole growing cycle of a season, reap the fruits of their labor, share the harvest with their families and community and learn valuable life lessons both practical and personal. Participants develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for how soil, farming and food affect their own personal health as well as the health of the planet. In 2014, Daron "Farmer D" Joffe wrote the book, "Citizen Farmers: The Biodynamic Way to Grow Healthy Food, Build Thriving Communities, and Give Back to the Earth". After helping his son and his friend start and run their own farm enterprise in 2021, he and tech entrepreneur, Scott Peeples, started the Citizen Farmers nonprofit to bring that opportunity to more kids, families, and communities across the country.
